Homekit wifi devices

Cupertino, January 21, 2024

I see a lot of people say that wifi devices can be a security issue for your home network. But there are some issues that I don't fully understand and I hope they will be clarified. The "smart home" consists of just a homepod mini and a few Meross switches and sockets. We only control them through Siri and especially on weekends we listen to music. I understand that this scenario requires all devices to be on the same network as the homepod and phones and not on a separate wifi. I could block internet access for each smart device through the router's configuration page, but is this a feasible approach and would it add an extra layer of security? Is there another way to make homekit devices "safer" or should I not worry so much? Thanks.
