HomePod Mini has a Thread radio

Thread is the most likely future of mesh in the new CHIP connectivity standard, which is developed by basically everyone in the industry. Thread is faster than Zigbee, more secure and simpler to implement.

Some possible implications for the future:

* One day, hopefully, no more bridges and hubs will be needed. All Thread, Wifi and BT devices will be able to connect directly to the Homepod Mini
* Much better connectivity and connection stability do to the mesh nature
* Zigbee and Z-Wave will slowly die off (for new products) as CHIP with Thread fully replaces their functionality in a better, faster, more secure and open-source way
* Some Zigbee devices can be firmware-updated to Thread (both protocols use the same underlying radio tech), but this would require a lot of effort from the manufacturers
