Honeywell Lyric T6R, window sensors and heating programs

Cupertino, July 2, 2020

I'm trying to get something I thought would be simple, but it drove me crazy.

I can create an automation that turns off the thermostat when the window is open. This is an easy thing to do.

What I can't do is create an automation that, when the window is closed, returns the heating to its program. It seems to be the program bit that is impossible!

The only options in Homekit are off, activated or automatic, and automatically does not mean to use the program.

I even tried to get the same thing using Smartthings, but on this one option is to set a new temperature for the thermostat when the window is closed, but again it cannot re-engage the thermostat program.

It seems so obviously desirable to do, but somehow I can't do it.

I'm happy to use something like a Pi raspberry or similar to create automation, if that's the only way to do it rather than through Homekit or Smartthings.

Any advice? !!
