How Can We Disable Some HomeKit Automations When Grandma or Baby Sitter Have Stayed Behind

Cupertino, October 5, 2021

I know this has been discussed before but is there anything new is iOS 15 to account for a babysitter staying at the home so that HomeKit does not turn off all the lights?

I tried adding the user to the Home but then they can see all the cameras and there does not seem to be a way to disable them for a particular user. If we remember we can add and remove users from Home when we leave and come back.

I have Homebridge to control Wyze cameras and sensors, a Ring Doorbell and August lock.

In theory, I could possibly set the Good Bye scene to be ignored if the Wyze Motion sensor detects motion but that’s only in one room. I don’t think I could set it to ignore the automation if motion was detected in the last 15 minutes.

Just a side note iOS 11 has no way to stop lights from turning off when a single user left home, so for a whole year, Apple thought anyone using HomeKit must live alone. It made that automation completely useless.
