How simple is the experience with several houses?

Cupertino, November 8, 2021

Is the HomeKit experience perfect for multiple homes? I searched for something on Google, but the details are few other than creating a second home. For example, if I tell my phone to "turn off the lights on the ground floor," does HomeKit automatically choose the nearest home? Or do I have to change homes manually? When I have automations that are triggered when I arrive / leave home, does it "just work" the way you would intuitively like? Are there any weird or hiccups or setup best practices we should know about before starting the new home? Any links, tips, etc. highly appreciated.
