This week’s HomeKit Insider podcast has a surprise guest host, and the couple tackles the news before having an in-depth discussion about the pitfalls and benefits of testing so many smart home devices.

As always, we start the episode with the news. This week, Apple released iOS 15.1, which made some changes to the Home app, as well as lossless sound support on the HomePod. Apple has also released over 250 mood-based playlists for Apple Music, as announced during the “Unleashed” event.

We saw a few updates to the app this week, including the popular Signals app that made the leap to the Mac. Developer Matt Corey has also created a great shortcut to scare those who might take on music and turn on the porch lights whenever the bell rings.

Home Devices has also been updated, now with over 600 HomeKit devices listed.

Although not available now, Eero has announced that its current routers that support Thread will be updated next year to support Matter as well.

Finally, while Stephen remains in exile in the mountains, Andrew and Faith discuss how testing so many smart home devices is, what features devices should have for users unfamiliar with technology, and more.
