I just bought a Nest thermostat and easily added it to HomeKit, but I'm wondering what to do with the Google Home app now

Cupertino, March 13, 2024

Hi, as the title says, I just got a new furnace and also installed a Nest thermostat (the model that works with Matter). I set up the Nest in the Google Home app (because apparently it needs to be set up there first and then added to HomeKit via Matter) and then I was able to easily add it to HomeKit. Right now, to be honest, it looks like the Google Home app has more control options than HomeKit, but *if* I decide to still control the Nest via HomeKit, I'm wondering what to do with the Google app, especially to it assures me that Google and Apple aren't fighting each other with different smart settings/programming for the thermostat. I guess I need to delete all the schedules and geofences from Google Home so it doesn't compete with HomeKit and then I suppose I could turn off location and background refresh for Google Home and leave them in a folder on my phone just in case that of a lost connection between Nest and HomeKit? I googled and homekit.blog and found lots of setup instructions, but nothing specific to make sure the Google Home app no longer tries to control my oven once it's in HomeKit. Help with this? EDIT: *Also, I only went with the Nest because it was available locally and I needed to get a new thermostat right away. I'm definitely open to hearing "just get the Ecobee 3 Lite". I've tracked down a few reviews, but most of them pre-date Matter's support for Nest, so they're not completely comprehensive in their reviews.*
