Like many, I'm dealing with the post-December holiday season and smart plugs no longer needed. Various suggestions have been shared in the past and this is yet another one. As you all know, when the last device is removed from an automation, the entire automation is removed. It's not ideal. I was already using Service Groups (grouping accessories to act as a single accessory) in my automations. I realized that if I add a fake switch to a service group, the automations will persist even after removing the physical switches. Since it's a fake toggle, you can just leave the automation on or off, but it will stay because it still has a device associated with it. When the holidays come around, yes, you have to add the devices back to HomeKit, but then just add them to the service group and you're good to go. I'm sure others have already thought of this, but I don't recall seeing a post about it, so I thought I'd share it. Editing: I use Controller to easily create and edit my service groups.
