Ideas for stair lights at night

Cupertino, October 5, 2021

Hello everyone, I'm relatively new to subhomekit.blog and I'm excited to start some home automation. I already have a lot of fun ideas from reading the posts here. The only thing I can't figure out is the lighting of the stairs. We currently have two standard 3-way switches on each end, which supply a few bulbs above the ladder. I would like to start them automatically whenever someone approaches the stairs at the bottom or top. I was thinking of using 2 lutron box motion sensors, one at the bottom and one at the top attached to a box switch. But I would also like the lights to automatically switch to a lower brightness or even a red color later in the night, so as not to wake everyone up. I wonder if combining the tape with something like Phillips light bulbs would allow me to receive red / dim lights at night. Has anyone been successful with this type of setup?
