IKEA Tradfri has new smart light bulbs and lighting panels

Cupertino, July 13, 2019

Swedish furniture maker Ikea is doubling its smart home strategy with updated lighting products, a revamped app and new motion sensors at an American store near you.

Apple's passionate website, HomeKit Hero, has discovered many new Tradfri products in the Ikea store, from smart LED bulbs to illuminated panels. Tradfri is Ikea's smart home accessories range, which debuted in 2017 with a set of Wi-Fi LED bulbs compatible with Apple's HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

The new products include a $ 16 light bulb with three user-adjustable color temperatures: warm glow, warm white and cool white. Variable intensity light can reach 1,000 lumens, about the power of a traditional 70-watt incandescent lamp, enough to light a small room.

There is also a new 650-lumen, frosted candelabra E12 white light bulb, comparable to a 40-watt incandescent bulb. It features nine user-adjustable colors, with options such as dark peach, light purple, peach, dark red, dark pink, blue, lime or yellow. An extra warmer temperature is called a candle.

The new collection includes a range of wall panels called Floalt, available in three sizes: 70 inches (12 inches by 12 inches), 130 $ (24 inches by 24 inches) and 130 $ (12 inches). The panels are designed to be mounted on floors and ceilings and can be interconnected to provide coordinated lighting throughout the room.

All these devices can be controlled with Homekit, Home, Alexa, a special remote control and an application for Android or iOS. Add Ikea's new Fyrtur smart blinds, which will be delayed until the end of August, and it looks like Ikea is seriously considering becoming the smart home of the future.
