IKEA’s Smart Blinds Won’t Support HomeKit At Launch

Cupertino, September 20, 2019

One of the selling points for IKEA's smart home products, besides being affordable, is the way they support Apple's HomeKit ecosystem. This means that they can be used with other HomeKit devices and controlled simultaneously or in groups. Unfortunately, one of IKEA's next smart home products, FYRTUR Smart Shades, will not support HomeKit at launch.

In case you hear about it for the first time, IKEA has already announced its intention to launch a series of smart blinds / stores. Since there are not many HomeKit-compatible smart blinds on the market, it was good news for smart home owners who were looking to furnish their home.

However, it seems that IKEA has since confirmed that HomeKit support for its smart blinds will not be available at launch. The company said it would add it later this fall, but it remains to know exactly when. This is not the first time IKEA has delayed HomeKit support. They had already delayed HomeKit support for its smart plugs, but it has finally arrived, so better late than never, we assume.

In the meantime, IKEA has announced plans to double its smart home efforts by creating a new IKEA Home Smart business unit.
