I understand that this is a little outside the HomeKit domain, because the sensor cannot be used by Homekit, but I wanted to give my opinion as both a Homekit user and a Caseta fan. Honestly, these days I use Homekit reluctantly and see it as a largely functional but frustrating platform. On the other hand, Caseta is a system that I consider to be almost flawless and easily the best line of home automation products that I have used in my 20 years of experience in the area.

I was trying to use Hue sensors and an Onvis sensor in my home, automating the lights in the laundry, hall closet and garage / workshop. It's all ... all right. I have frequent failures when the lights go out when I shouldn't and no amount of fluttering makes them back and I have to pull my phone and call Siri, but Siri is incompetent so I have to unlock the phone and open it Home app and find the camera and turn on the light. Take him there.

When Lutron announced the motion sensor Cassette I was thrilled. But early reviews were almost unanimously negative. This surprised me. So I took a chance and ordered one for my workshop, where the Onvis sensor will repeatedly turn off the lights when I didn't want to be (a big problem when working on wood).

Well, I'm here to say that the motion sensor cassette is absolutely flawless in my configuration. I never had the chance to see and turn on the lights faster than I could with a switch. I never got the lights off while I was in the room, even when I was 18 feet away with my back to her computer. I never got to turn off the lights after we left, which I know because we have a fridge and freezer for the garage, so we make frequent trips.

I would like to work with Homekit, but so far my experience with this has been like my experience with the rest of the Cassette line: it just works.

I think the main complaint I saw is that the timeout is too long and that if the lights are turned off manually when leaving the room, the return before the end of the period will not be able to light up. I honestly didn't test this, because I don't have manual access to these lights. So, if you just want to control the motion sensor in a room and you don't care about the other programmatic features of Homekit, then I highly recommend this sensor.
