Installing a LAN switch from AirPort Extreme

Cupertino, January 7, 2022

Hi guys, I have two AirPort Extremes connected wirelessly right now. I have a HomePod mini, several Meros smart sockets, two Apple TVs and a Hive thermostat. I installed my new Hive Christmas thermostat because it was a gift. No problem, its hub is currently connected to the main AirPort Extreme in my lounge. Also in my lounge I have PS4 and Apple TV 4K connected via Ethernet. These 3 items took up all the ports on the main AirPort Extreme. I just bought a 30 m Ethernet cable (to connect my two airports, rather than wireless) and a 5-port TP-link LAN switch. I will connect the LAN switch to the router and Apple TV and PS4 to the LAN switch. My question is should I leave my Hive thermostat hub connected to the router or should I turn on the LAN switch? I was just thinking if I needed other smart item hubs, I ran out of Ethernet ports on the router besides the new LAN switch. Smart hubs may or may not work with LAN switches.
