Insteon Hub Pro and Homekit

Cupertino, July 3, 2021

Insteon Hub Pro is no longer supported by Insteon, however there are many of us (including me) who have many smart devices that we like to control in HomeKit. My special problem was that Hub Pro failed and could only display the red status light. (The most common problem with the hub.) I was ready to give up my Insteon Smart devices for Lutron Cassette or another solution. However, the last time I tried to make things work. Insteon Support said they would send me a refurbished unit for free. All I had to do was remove the serial # tag from the failed drive and send them a picture. One week later, I received the refurbished unit without having to return the failed unit. (I now have 2 unsupported units!) In the meantime, I came across this Ebay list from a guy in NY who would fix the status red light issue on any Insteon 2245 hub. When asked if he can do the same with the 2243 Hub Pros, he didn't answer any questions. His claim was that your settings would still be in the hub and you should not re-configure any of your old Insteon devices. I paid the $ 50 and sent my failed unit (that Insteon left me so glad to keep it) for repairs). 10 days later, I received the Insteon hub pro repaired back. However, neither the repaired drive nor the refurbished drive would initialize in the HomeKit. All my Apple devices are on iOS 14x, except for an old iPad still on 12.x. I was wondering if the old Insteon devices couldn't be initialized by the newer versions of HomeKit. So I plugged in my old repaired drive and looked at my old iPad and there it was, Hub Pro with all my devices! Leaving here ... I'm not a whistleblower at Homebridge and I'm out of my system days. I just want things to work as smoothly as possible for my wife. If the Hub Pro has a red light error, then it is easy to fix it and return it to the network. Also, because Insteon Hub Pro is no longer supported by Insteon, keep an old iOS device to initialize Insteon Hub Pro and associated devices. You can even add new Insteon devices to the Hub Pro / HomeKit. Once they appear on HomeKit on the old iOS device, then all the shiny new iOS devices will recognize those Insteon devices on their new versions of HomeKit.
