Intermittent contact sensor does not trigger automation

Cupertino, March 16, 2024

This is quite confusing. I have several cabinet door sensors in my house. I use native HomeKit aquara context sensors. The automation is very simple: open contact sensor, turn on the cabinet light. Closed, light out. This works perfectly about 75-80% of the time. However, randomly and without explanation, even though HomeKit itself shows that the contact sensor has changed state (eg from closed to open), HomeKit simply refuses to trigger the automation. For what it's worth, there are no obvious things to fix: - network: home network and WiFi are solid. I have a background in IT and computer networking, so I have a firm understanding of how to troubleshoot. There are no problems here. - hubs: I have 3 home pod minis and an Apple TV 4K connected via ethernet. Don't even get me started on apples refusal to allow us to block a hub. They are all updated to 17.4, I just don't get it. Why does HomeKit itself admit that it knows the status of the changed sensor, but ignores the applicable automation? Anyone else encountering this? Is this still an unresolved HomeKit error?
