Hello, I just bought a house and started to go into home automation after installing a smart thermostat and a door lock. Both devices don’t need a hub, but after being frustrated that I forgot to turn off the front and back porch, I wanted to buy a hub. I started looking at Homekit and Homepod mini because I have an Iphone, but I’m not sure if a Homepod mini fits my needs and I’m a little confused about the connectivity of different devices. I plan to use Homepod mini only for the smart door lock, the thermostat, possibly the garage door opener in the future and, of course, the automatic lights. I really want something simple, to allow the lights to turn on / off automatically at sunset / sunrise, to be able to lock / unlock my door away from the house and possibly the garage door. I don’t see myself doing anything more in love than that. As for my confusion with connectivity, I was a little confused when looking for smart light switches that are compatible with homekit and saw some that connect via wifi and some that use “zigbee”. I just want a simple light switch that is simple and can be turned on / off manually, but will also follow the on / off program at sunrise or sunset, etc. … I would prefer something that did not connect with wifi you get network problems and you have problems, the problem is solved by zigbee? Anyway, I’m just trying to figure out if Homepod mini is right for the situation and what direction it should go with the smart light switches. Thanks!
Is Homepod mini right for my situation? Also the question about smart light switches
