Is the Yale Smart Lock app as bad as it sounds?

Cupertino, January 18, 2020

I'm interested in getting a smart lock for my HomeKit compatible home. I was watching between Yale Assure SL or Nest. I was going further to Yale, but I heard the app was horrible. It's true? Since I will use it with the HomeKit app for home, will I even have to use their application much? How about geofencing features can I use HomeKit to activate them or should I use the app. I am worried about receiving it if the application is so bad.
