iSmartGate vs myQ Home Bridge

Cupertino, May 26, 2020

I have an old PRO95 Genie Screw Drive + iSmartGate Pro opener - and I need to replace the garage door opener.

I struggled for a long time with several MyQ Smart Garage + myQ Home Bridge hubs that were trying to work at home - I eventually gave up. I had all kinds of random problems. I then tried the Insignia Wi-Fi Garage Door Controller - also returned due to inconsistencies in the open / closed state.

Finally, I have a reliable configuration with iSmartGate Pro from November - six months of solid rock performance. It was invigorating!

But now my opener is hectic and I need a new one! Liftmaster seems to have cornered the opening market - everyone I call wants to install an 8550W with built-in myQ, which requires Bridge HomeKit. But Liftmaster is not compatible with iSmartGate Pro due to the use of opener protocol wall control. Is the configuration built into myQ + HomeKit Bridge as reliable as iSmartGate Pro? I was surprised to find at least one person who had an opener with myQ built-in, opening his opener to work with iSmartGate Pro by gluing to the terminals inside the wall control:

Another option I'm considering is getting a Genie 3020/3120 opening device, as it uses a regular dry loop contact for wall control - so I can connect iSmartGate Pro without any problems. But there is only one Genie plumber in the area, so they charge a lot more than many Liftmaster plumbers. Following this route I know that I can use iSmartGate without any problems, so I lean in this way. HomeKit's trusted support has been most sought after by family members.
