It's 2024 and we still can't limit guest access to our smart homes

Cupertino, January 22, 2024

It's so bizarre that HomeKit has supported second homes for years, but still doesn't allow you to limit the access other members have to your smart home. It's such a bizarre omission. I thought that when HomeKey support came out, there would be new granular options for controlling access to your home, but nope. There are so many use cases for it. I don't want my kids to have access to their siblings' rooms. I want my parents to be able to see the dog's room and access the house. If I have friends staying at home, I want them to have full access for a limited time, but not be able to accidentally change settings or automations. Matter even supports this now - “Users are assigned roles and permissions based on their level of network access. A network administrator would have full access to all devices and features, while a guest user would only be allowed to control certain devices or access certain features" Come on Apple... in 2024 please?
