Just got a mi bulb on a whim and have a couple of questions

Cupertino, September 16, 2020

I thought it might be fun to try a connected lightbulb since I have a homepod to act as a homehub and it was pretty cheap.

Just realised that I don't have any lamps that fit it but in the meantime I'm wondering how to set it up once I order one in...

Is it possible to avoid the mi home app altogether or is it necessary to set the device up and to make the lightbulb work?

Once the device is setup can I just get rid of the mi app?

Is this bulb any good?

Thanks
