LG releases HomeKit & AirPlay 2 firmware for UM7 series TVs

LG began deploying AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support for its high-end 2019 TVs in July. The firmware is also available for cheaper UM7 TVs and will arrive later for lower-end UM6 models (via Macrumors).

Like Samsung, Sony and Vizio, LG has partnered with Apple to integrate AirPlay 2 into its TVs. These last three will also support Apple HomeKit. LG has started to deploy the required firmware on its 2019 OLED models as well as on most of its "NanoCell" LCD TVs in end of July 2019. The firmware (version 04.70.03) is also being rolled out on LG's mid-range UM7 series TVs, such as UM7600, UM7500 and UM7100. The same goes for LG's "SM83 and lower" series in the "NanoCell" range. It seems that more or less the full range of LG's 4K and 8K TVs from 2019 will be compatible. However, the company still reserves AirPlay 2 and HomeKit media for its 2019 TVs.

HomeKit is the Apple platform for the connected home.
