LG's $30,000 88-Inch OLED TV Now Available, Will Support HomeKit and AirPlay 2

LG announced today that its new 8 - inch LED 8K OLED Smart TVs and 8K LED 75 - inch LEDs are available at select US retailers from today, priced at $ 29,999. $ and $ 4,999 respectively. LG says both models will receive a firmware update to support HomeKit and AirPlay 2 later this fall.



AirPlay Support 2 will allow users to stream videos, music, podcasts, etc., directly from an iPhone, iPad or Mac on these TVs, without any Apple TV box being needed. And with HomeKit, users can easily control power, volume, source, etc. the TV using Siri or the iPhone family app, iPadand Mac.

LG claims that this 88-inch model is the largest OLED TV of all time, with an 8K Ultra HD 8K resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 for a total of nearly 33 million pixels. The TV features a slim-screen display with a brushed aluminum backing and an 80-watt built-in speaker system that delivers powerful sound.

LG was unveiled HomeKit and AirPlay 2 to select 4K UHD 201K OLED and NanoCell smart TVs with ThinQ AI functionality in July, while the remaining 4K UHD TV series from LG's 2019 lineup are expected to be available in October.

Many customers have asked LG to offer AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on its older Smart TVs, but the company has not moved so far, pointing out that it "can not guarantee" that pre-2019 models "will be able to provide a seamless user experience". LG noted that this "could be a possibility in the future".

AirPlay 2 and HomeKit are also available on some smart TVs Vizio and Sony has promised to deploy these features in the summer of 2019, but it has not done so yet. Samsung offers a Apple TV app and AirPlay 2, but not HomeKit, on some TVs.
