Look for the best WIFI home solution for homekit devices.

Cupertino, December 21, 2019

Hello everyone,

I have some problems with setting up my home WIFI. I had a Netgear R6400v2 router and replaced it with a new WIFI6 AX8 nighthawk a few days ago, the reason I purchased the new router is because of the signal I received from the R6400 is pretty bad because my bedroom is in one corner of my apartment. However, I don't want to miss the old R6400 risk, so I set it up separately in my ethernet-connected bedroom as an access point, then changed the SSID and password with the same name as the main router (AX8). I was expecting to have a smooth, seamless, seamless WIFI experience in my home, that my devices will automatically switch between different WIFI hif points to find the best signal strength. However, it does not work for my homekit devices. I think that although these two routers transmit the same WIFI name, it does not mean that the WIFIs here are completely the same. The channels, IP addresses and etc are completely different, so from a technical point of view, I still have two different WIFIs in my house, given that their name is the same. For example, my Phillips Hue connects to the AX8 in the living room and my Homepod sits in my bedroom connecting to the R6400. In this case, I cannot control my Homepod when I am in the living room and I am not able to turn off the lights if they are in my bedroom. I want the best WIFI coverage in my house, which I want to optimize the signal strength that, no matter what corner they are in, I get the best signal possible, so using a single router cannot achieve this.

Can anyone tell me that there is another way I can configure my routers and WIFI setting that I have a smooth WIFI coverage with only one WIFI in the honeys? (In addition to purchasing a new WIFI extender)
