Imagine how your child heard crying because of a bad dream. You and your partner are awake and you will see the scissors to see whose turn it is to go to the child's room. Your partner goes down the hall and checks the child, and in a few minutes the child is happy and laughing and ready to forget the bad dream. When your partner returns, they find you unable to return to sleep - because your child's monitor has continued to transmit audio even with a parent in the room, and now you're awake.
Now imagine if the audio transmission from the baby monitor should be stopped once the parent came in and reactivated once the parent appeared. It would be best if the detection was passive to avoid unintended gaps in monitoring. Maybe the monitor could detect an authorized Apple Watch in the camera, as opposed to the MBP unlock feature? Or maybe something from the App Store to "delay" monitoring, such as PagerDuty with recognized alerts? It doesn't matter as long as it works.
