Meta and Apple are preparing to compete in the AR, home and portable items market

Cupertino, November 17, 2021

Apple and competitor Meta are ready to face off against each other in the smart home, wearable and augmented reality market.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg presented the initiative of the two technology giants in the niche for home devices, smartwatch and AR during his newsletter "Power On". Gurman mentioned that the rivalry between the two will "warm up" as soon as they compete in the same space.

Meta is working on Project Cambria, a product for mixed reality headphones, while Apple is believed to be working on a mixed reality visor. Meta is also looking to enter the smartwatch market with its own product that incorporates communication and health features. Meta has launched its own smart home product line, called "Portal", where Apple sells its HomeKit and HomePod products.

Finally, Gurman notes that Apple could soon launch a set top box with speakers, as well as a device that offers similar features to the Amazon Echo Show.
