"Motion not detected" does not turn off a light when it is on

Cupertino, October 16, 2019

Hey folks,

I'm new to home automation, and I'm trying to configure it, which I think is a fairly simple automation of turning on and off the light triggered by a motion sensor. I use the Hue motion sensor to control a Hue light strip.

The setup is simple as recommended in various posts here and elsewhere:

1. When motion is detected, turn on the lights
2. When movement is NOT detected, turn the lights on and start a 1 minute timer to turn them off

However, Home never ends up turning off the light, it just stays on forever. My hypothesis is that because the light was initially not triggered by 2. (motion NOT detected) automation, does it not turn it off? Just speculative reason, I really have no idea. What is bizarre is that exactly the same "hack" is recommended and reported in several posts here and elsewhere. Still, it doesn't work for me.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!
