Motion sensor or shortcut button?

Cupertino, June 5, 2021

Hi all! My husband and I rented an old house built in the 1880s, which we slow down, trying to switch to smart lighting. Our only bathroom is on the first floor, while the bedrooms are upstairs, so I try to find the easiest way to turn on the lights if one of us gets up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I'm thinking of either a motion sensor or a shortcut button that would turn on the lights on the way to the bathroom dimmed to a level so they wouldn't be blinding. The problem I see is how to automate turning off the lights again and not having to open the Home app or ask Siri on one of our phones or iPads. Our only HomePod is on the ground floor in the kitchen and we are not able to buy more. Besides, my husband doesn't always like to bother with Siri. The lights involved are all Hue, so it would be either a Hue sensor or a button.
