My first automation already shows the limits of HomeKit

Cupertino, November 12, 2021

I recently bought a smart thermostat that integrates with HomeKit (ecobee). Most of the time I leave it in the car to keep the house at a certain temperature. But I want it to stop heating / cooling when I open one of my sliding doors. Ecobee sells specific sensors to achieve this, but I already have sensors on these doors from my alarm system. In short, I tried to integrate the two with HomeKit. Here's what I came up with: https://preview.redd.it/4zxc5c76m7z71.jpg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ad1b8a5ee7b025349378995aa54b9bfc3513404 This works, but it already shows the limitation HomeK. Ideally, I would have only one automation, but this is the smaller problem. The problem I have with this is that as soon as I rely on multiple doors / windows, it crumbles completely. If I duplicated these automations for a second sensor, it would only work if I had all the doors open or all the doors closed. As soon as I closed a single door, the thermostat turned on again. I suspect that my use case is quite common (turn off the thermostat if you open ANY window and restart only if you close ALL windows), but I can't do this with HomeKit. Or am I missing something?
