My iPad was set up as my home hub and I sold it. Now none of my automation is working. Will adding another iPad solve this?

Cupertino, December 5, 2021

I want to preface by saying that I just got a 1 hour call from a senior Apple engineer and they didn't say I couldn't do anything (according to the official Apple guide). I had an iPad that I used as a "Hub" (Settings> Home> Use iPad as a hub). I didn't cancel this setting before resetting and selling the iPad. I don't have an iPad now and my automation doesn't work anymore. My home app says: iPad: No answer. When I touch it, it says "Unable to connect to iPad. Make sure it's turned on and connected to the internet. " No options to remove it from my home app, Home settings, iCloud settings, etc. etc, etc. I see people in 2017 complaining about this without any resolution. Now it's 2021 and Apple hasn't addressed this yet (???????????) I just bought a mini homepod to test if the automations work if I have a second hub. AND IT WORKED! But my iPad is still listed as a disconnected hub. My questions for r / Homekit are: 1. Did anyone find a way to remove the iPad after it was in this exact situation? Attention, I don't have an iPad. Also, since I've tried everything under Apple's guidance, is there anything NOT in their guidance that I can try? 2. I get my new iPad in mid-January. Will adding a new iPad, a different iPad, potentially with the same device name, replace this dead hub? Or will it appear as a disconnected hub forever? It doesn't bother me, since my automations work with a homepod configured as a hub, so I assume that with a new iPad configured as a hub and my automations will work, but it bothers me that there would be 2 iPad hubs with the same name, one disconnected. Should Apple just add an option for the homeowner to delete the hubs on their phone ??? Like I just wasted my whole Saturday night with this and I'm a little annoyed that APPLE doesn't think people are getting rid of old devices and buying new ones lol. Shouldn't they be capitalists? lol, thanks for hearing the revelation + any suggestions will be helpful, but chances are you've already tried :( Final notes: when I turn off my phone, my disconnected iPad disappears from the hub list, only reappears when a failed automation Lol. What is this mess? Gather * * * * Apple.
