Noob for smart devices; using HomeKit vs. using device apps; which shifts to buy?

Cupertino, August 7, 2019

I'm pretty new to smart devices. I have an ecobee 4 and a MyQ that I can't quite configure, nor am I able to find the time to call Chamberlain for help. But right now I'm especially wondering about switches. I want to put my outdoor lights (porch, garage, back door) on a schedule and have the ability to control them remotely. So ... I have some questions.

Do I need to find some switches that are HomeKit compatible or should I skip HomeKit completely?

Are there any HomeKit switches that are good without being excessively overpriced?

How are the Leviton switches?

Edit: Thanks for the advice everyone.
