Apple wants your iPhone to unlock all kinds of doors. Their car keys feature already allows you to use your iPhone to unlock some supported cars and iIf you have a HomeKit lock, you can use your iPhone and Apple Watch to unlock your home as well. And now Apple is starting to launch global support for hotel room keys.

It starts with a collaboration with Hyatt in six locations (Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa, Hyatt House Chicago / West Loop-Fulton Market, Hyatt House Dallas / Richardson, Hyatt Place Fremont / Silicon Valley and Hyatt Regency Long Beach), but will soon add more hotels around the globe (according to TechCrunch, Apple wondoes not provide details for the hotels that will come on board).

Serving the digital keytwo purposes. It is something less to wear, pTherefore, since you are automatically registered, you do not have to wait in the lobby to stay in your hotel room..

How to set up hotel keys in the iPhone Wallet app

This feature at the moment construction use Hyatt's world mobile application. Once you've booked your tickets, you'll have the option to add the reservation to your Apple Wallet app, just as you do with movie tickets.

You can add keys to your wallet immediately after booking, but they will not be activated until you check in time. Once the reservation is added, you will be able to see all the details of the reservation in the Wallet app (such as property name, check-in date, check-out date, and more). To find out more details about the booking (such as the booking number), tap the three dots menu the button in the upper right corner.

Once check-in time arrives and the camera is ready, you will receive a notification and you can check in directly on your iPhone. After which, the camera key will be activated and you can go directly to your camera. All you have to do is flip your iPhone next to the sensor, as the digital key function uses NFC to unlock the door.

This Hyatt deal isn't the first time you've unlocked a hotel room with your iPhone; other hotels allow you to use their app as a digital key or even add the key to your wallet.

The difference is that this feature uses Express Transit, the same feature that allows you to touch your iPhone to get on public transportation. This means you do not need to use Face ID or Touch ID to log in every time you want to open the hotel room door.

While this is obvious convenient, brings some security questions. The biggest question is: What happens if someone steals your iPhone? Because Apple has just released this feature, we don't know enough, but we will find out more as people start using it. We hope that Apple has considered the issue of privacy here.

A major disadvantage? It is locked for a single iPhone and a single Hyatt account holder (one that is currently connected). You can't share the key with a friend or family member. Once you check out, the card will be automatically archived from the Wallet app.

Digital Keys is available on iPhones running iOS 15 and Apple Watch running watchOS 8 and later.
