As much as I've enjoyed the sound of these OG HomePods over the years, I lose all confidence (and the wife's acceptance factor) when one of these takes over hub duties. I have 4 OGs in different rooms, all within 10 feet of an Eero 6E pro (1gbps ethernet backhaul). As soon as nothing responds, there's a 100% chance that one of the OG HomePods just took over the hub duties. If this happens when the house is empty, we'll have doors unlocked, lights on, and fans running all day. And sending a remote "reset" command from the home app doesn't work because... no response. I updated to version 17 but it seems to be the same regardless of version. HomePod minis in kids' rooms work great as hubs. Apple TVs work great as a hub, even the older HD version. So...all that to say, I think I'm ready to give the new HomePods a try, simply to improve the hub situation and see if I can't recoup some of the cost by selling. Does anyone have an A/B comparison of the old and new HomePods in terms of hub duties?
