People detection trigger

Cupertino, October 5, 2021

Does anyone know of a way to trigger an automation when a camera detects a person? I know that HomeKit secure video capable cameras are able to record when people are detected, and even use facial recognition to determine who it is. I’d like to get an outdoor HomeKit camera for security, and be alerted or trigger an automation when a person is detected. I know I could just use a motion sensor, most of the cameras have a motion sensor exposed in HomeKit too, but from experience, they are often falsely triggered from high sensitivity, or maybe from just a leaf blowing in the wind. There’s no “when a person is detected” trigger in the home automations, which baffles me considering the cameras are capable of differentiating people from other objects. Does anyone maybe know of a third party workaround to this?
