Phillips Hue Sync Box + Shortcuts + Dolby Vision

Cupertino, February 6, 2020

I finished my basement for a few months and went completely to the shade / lutron / homebridgePi / HarmonyHub / HomePod / YamahaAVR / AppleTV and even pre-ordered the Hue Sync Box. I tried my best to figure out how to make Hue Sync Box easy to use for my family and guests.

We've created a simple Google document, with links for guests to install:

Hue Sync and Spotify from iOS and Android. I have a guest account on the family account that works for most of the automation and for guests - very handy.

Shortcuts are shared via icloud links on the same document - so they can download shortcuts made for our home - especially the a / v components that are always complex.

Then there is a list of simple order templates (use the word "basement" instead of "ground floor" and other such things).

Using "Choose from the menu" in shortcuts or via NFC tags placed on devices, guests can ask Siri to turn on the TV, and siri responds, "What application do you want to use?" And then gives them the most popular options (Netflix, Hulu , Spotify, Apple Music and a few games). Then open the app on Apple TV. Then, depending on the answer, my harmony hub (via homebridge on an RPi) will change the DSP mode (for dialogue in audio atmosphere movies and for music: 2.1 channels).

The last one, siri asked, do you want the lights to match? And if it's a music and visual application, she asks if you want the lights to match the music or the screen. Then the synchronization box is awakened, the synchronization begins and the mode changes accordingly).

To make the last part work without changing multiple inputs on the receiver, we simply divided the HDMI output from the Apple TV, one end goes to the receiver for switching and / or control to the TV, and the other to synchronization. box. Note: You do not have to run HDMI from the sync box to do this. You just need to power the split HDMI sync and it will have the content it needs to match the lights (either audio or video) - while the AVR splitter can continue to transmit dolby vision to the TV.

I'll post a complete overview of the build when I'm done, but I wanted to get this Dolby Vision solution for Sync #onhere.
