Podcast: Check out this new location tech for IoT - Stacey on IoT

Cupertino, August 15, 2019
Brilliant's smart lights now work with LIFX.

This week, Kevin and I continue to follow the endless saga of companies that relayed their statements to uninspiring contractors and piled on more disconcerting news that Amazon's facial recognition service would be able to detect fear. From there we discuss partnerships (LIFX and Brilliant, LG and Lumi); breaks (Microsoft and Johnson Controls, Kasa and HomeKit from TP Link); and things that do not work (Google and Wink). We broadcast some Defcon information about acoustic attacks and hacked phones before ending with a study on the power consumption of your voice-activated TVs. We then answer a question about the automation of a bathroom exhaust fan.

Our guest this week is Adam Smith, Director of Marketing at LitePoint, a company that manufactures wireless test equipment. He came on the show to discuss why LightPoint joined the FiRa consortium, while giving insight into how location and security functions work. After that, we discuss how he chooses which wireless technology to bet on and which he is most excited about today. You will learn a lot.
