OK, so I was just about to answer someone's question about controlling a whole house fan with a smart switch. They were worried that if the power was lost, then the switch would turn on automatically. I was going to comment by saying that I thought using the convert to shortcut would allow you to turn off the switch if it's on, but I wasn't sure. Instead of submitting the comment, I ended up deleting it and doing a bit of testing. And yes, sure enough, this actually works. When you go into the Home app and create an automation, then select the accessory is controlled, and then select, you know the traditional steps well. But once you get to the menu where you select which accessories will be controlled, scroll all the way down and click convert to shortcut. You can then go to control my home action in the shortcut editor that is presented to you. when you go in there and select the device, it will allow you to select the same device that started the automation.
