Question for OneLink Safe & Sound owners

Cupertino, April 11, 2020

Okay, so I got one of these weeks ago, when they had $ 99 at Costco. I removed my old wired smoke detector, connected this bad boy, it worked great and everything was fine ...

... until he died, a few days later. Maybe four or so. It simply would not activate, could not press the "Reset" button, HomeKit saw that it was untouchable.

Now, I had a guest stay with me, so I turned on the night light and it was all night. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but it happened.

My question is this - is there a chance that the previous homeowner (or anyone) has mistakenly connected the connection to the smoke detector, and my OneLink has never been in power in the home? It was on battery since I plugged it in and it took four or more days to die? How did I find out I had to bring an electrician here?

Or did I get a protection unit and I probably shouldn't worry about it happening again? They already sent me another one, but I hesitate to ask because I don't want the same thing to happen.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
