Rio Arc HomeKit activated heater - First impressions

Cupertino, May 24, 2021

I just bought a house and unlike my old home office, this one is * FREEZE. * I needed a space heater. I've had a space heater on a stopwatch in our bathroom for years, but I've never felt comfortable with it from a safety standpoint, because I know heaters should never be used with an extension cord, which also meant I wasn't about to use it with a smart plug. After seeing the Rio Arc heater before, I knew that was what I wanted to stop my toes from. I ordered a white one on May 18th. It was shipped from the UK and arrived this morning, three days earlier! It was well packaged and looks exactly as I expected, I like it! It was a little confusing, adding the legs, because there are 5 holes on the legs that don't line up with more than 5 holes on the bottom, because you should only use 4 ... no idea why it's like that. I'm going to mount it on the wall this weekend, a wall template would have been nice, honestly I don't know how I'll measure the holes - in the end it only came with two wall screens / sockets, but it has three dots mount. I connected it immediately and scanned the HomeKit code in the Home application ... and it didn't work. I tried again in the Rio app (which requires an account and asks for your location, I'm not sure what happens if you reject it, I allowed it once) and it failed again. At this point I realized that he probably needed me to change my network to only 2.4 ghz (as did the Aqara hub), but it continued to fail. I have decided that a factory reset is in order. To do this, press and hold all three side buttons for 10 seconds (the screen will remain blank and restart). After that, it paired in both the Home app and the Rio app after a failed attempt there. As others have said, the Celsius display is just annoying (I'm British too, so I grew up with it!), But otherwise it warms up my nice desk and looks good, so I'm happy enough with it. One last thing: you ** need to ** use the Rio app if you want updates, so those of you who want to update the Fahrenheit will have to sign up and use the Rio app to get it. B + would recommend! ("A" once fixes the Fahrenheit display, "A +" if I can remove the need for an account).
