Rotating vs fixed security camera pros/cons

Cupertino, July 27, 2023

I would like to install a couple of cameras in my home to guard the front and rear doors. I used to think rotating ones were superior to fixed ones and they certainly have their place but, for the purposes of detecting intrusions, now I'm beginning to think a fixed camera could actually be more effective because it is much easier to conceal. In fact, I can't see how a rotating camera could be concealed at all since it needs no obstructions all around it in order to benefit from the rotating feature.

It doesn't help that manufacturers insist in making these cameras white, which makes them much easier to spot. If I were the intruder and saw one of those R2D2-looking rotating cameras it would definitely unplug it and put it away in a cupboard (or steal it) to prevent it from recording me.
