Schlage Encode Plus does not connect to HomeKit

Cupertino, September 17, 2023

Today I installed a Schlage Encode Plus on a downstairs door. I set it up using the Schlage app and was able to add it to HomeKit. Later I checked the Home app and the crash reported "no response". While speaking with Schlage customer service, I was told that the lock must connect to a HomeKit controller via Bluetooth, not Wifi. I have a HomePod Mini as a HomeKit controller, but it's upstairs in the middle of the house, way out of Bluetooth range. So a few questions: * Was I told correctly that the lock needs to be connected via Bluetooth to show up in the Home app? * If so, what are my options other than buying a HomePod Mini to put downstairs just to connect the lock? Thanks.
