Schlage Encode Plus Much poorer battery life than Sense

Cupertino, February 11, 2024

I have a beach house that I haven't been to in a while. When I first bought the house, the Encode Plus was on the near horizon but not yet available, so I bought a trusty Schlage Sense for my front door and waited to replace the other locks until the Encode Plus arrived. I bought 3 Encode Plus locks in the first wave of availability and installed them maybe a month or two later. I used the house very occasionally in the following months, with an approximate use of the locks. But, for the most part, the house sat idle. When I got home this weekend I found that my Sense lock had 70% battery and all of my Encode Plus locks were completely dead. If I had replaced the Sense with an Encode Plus and needed to provide remote home access, I would have been screwed. All my locks would be dead. The HomeKey stuff is fantastic. But I'm surprised that the transition from Bluetooth to WiFi had such a big impact on battery life. Anyone else have a mixed Sense/Encode Plus household and see the same difference? I have 3 Encode Plus locks that I plan to install, all to replace the Sense locks in both houses and now I'm wondering if this is a mistake.
