(Scripted) Reolink RLC-510A vs. RLC-811A - Better 510A for Homekit?

Cupertino, October 2, 2023

Hello everyone! I am in the process of setting up a security system with Homekit. For cameras I want to go with Reolink + Scrypted. The setup was a bit complicated but it works fine now. Since Homekit doesn't support 4k (with Apple!), I went with the RLC-510A first. It cost me about €65 and I was VERY impressed with the image it produces for that price. Now that I have everything tested and working fine, I was going to add 3 more cameras. Since I wanted one with a projector and to try and see the difference, I ordered an 811A for about 120 euros. In theory, this camera should be much better. Setup... the 4k picture in the Reolink app looked... good? But compared to my 511A, it wasn't anything I'd upgrade to like I expected. The FOV is larger, which is a nice bonus. So as we know HK doesn't support 4k. Setting 811a to 2560x1440. The picture now is WORSE than the 511A on my half. Also the FOV is way WORSE. I'm guessing the FOV won't be much of a problem once it's outside my new house and it's not that close. Now I wonder if I am doing something wrong? Do you like any settings I'm missing? Has anyone else had the same experience? Maybe someone has other recommendations in the price range up to €150 (I'm quite happy with the 511A though).
