Sensor to trigger a shortcut

Cupertino, October 11, 2023

I've been trying to find a way to notify me if a sensor has been opened within a certain time. I have a shortcut that will create a calendar event and another shortcut that will check at 10am every day to see if there is that calendar event in the time frame. This all works except I want the shortcut that creates the calendar event to be triggered by a sensor. I can't seem to link the shortcuts in the Home app to the shortcuts. I'm no expert so I might be missing something but from what I've found online there is no way to do it as one is home based and the other is device based. Is there no way to trigger a shortcut from a home device? It seems like a pretty big shortcoming.
