Setting the program / automation for the Ecobee thermostat in the Home application

Cupertino, October 15, 2020

I just went over my program / automation from the Ecobee in Home app and it was super painful. We are at the time of use, so we have separate set points between 6-10 and 18-9 and keep the temperature lower when we sleep than during the day. Here's how I did it:

1. We created a scene for each of the "comfort settings" (for example, "Sleep" is set to warm to 62 and cool to 68). I have four separate scenes.

2. I have an automation to make every change of schedule when someone is home (different schedule for weekends and weekdays, because weekends are all on the lower energy rate)

3. We created separate automations to set the different scenes when the first person comes home at different times of the day / days of the week. I had to use Home + for these automations, because HomeKit doesn't allow you to create automation that depends on both time and day.

4. I then have the automation to set it to heat to 60 and cool to 85 when the last of us leaves.

Thus, I have 15 automations without taking into account the one from Leave Home. Is there a better way to do this? I would like HomeKit to have a better thermostat interface, which allows you to set a program and easily label location automations for that program.
