Iirc, the HomePod mini was supposed to use UWB for the spatial presence of the iPhone/watch, plus the microphone sensor to validate that a user was in the room. And from there you can configure additional functions (turn off lights when leaving, etc.). Hoping we live in a future where we can ditch all those door sensors
