Somfy? Ryse? Axis? Move? Too many options, need suggestions to upgrade a HomeKit solution to power a roller

Cupertino, October 28, 2021

Let me preface this with yes, I read most of the posts I could find around HomeKit and nuances and that most of them are older and possibly outdated. At least they seem so, because most say it's not possible, while different companies seem to claim that they now accept a certain level of integration at home (just not always specifically HomeKit). What I would like to do is feed an existing custom roller shade, which can be activated either by a voice message to the HomePod mini or with a scene. When we adjust the blinds (currently manually) to watch TV, we do not completely close the blinds, but only lower it, say, 50-60% or so to block the brightness if we watch during the day. During the night, we may tighten it completely to prevent the lights from attracting cockroaches (big fish problems here in the summer months) and during the day I like to have it fully open to give light to the dogs. The original installer of the shade will sell me a Somfy Wirefree engine, but looking at the specifications on the Somfy website, it seems to be an RTS model, which does not seem to be capable of HomeKit, because it is a one-way communication. I found posts in which people made their RTS shades work through HomeAssistant or HomeBridge solutions, but since it is not mentioned, I suspect that those solutions are either completely open or completely closed due to the non-reporting nature of RTS. Ryse, Axis, Move, etc. solutions for a chain extractor instead of a roller motor are not as wireless as the Somfy solution. My SO absolutely hates to see any kind of thread. Even the options for solar recharging, however, require a wire to go to the solar panel separately and would require a panel to be in the window, blocking the view. They will be a beginner to me, she will not approve. A fully battery-powered box that I might get rid of as long as there are no wires, but the various options I've seen on these seem to suggest that the batteries won't last that long. So that's why I'm really leaning towards Somfy. According to the shading installer, Somfy will take 6 months between loads and has a solar panel option that can be hidden behind the shadow valve to extend it further, but would be completely invisible to my OS. I'm just worried about the limited capabilities of HomeKit. Does anyone know any other options we would have overlooked? Or do you have experience with either a roller motor or a chain pull motor that can help shed light on both their longevity (mainly in terms of battery power) and their HomeKit capabilities? Thanks for all the help, Mike
