Sonos & Spotify Loyalist -- Is Homekit for me?

Cupertino, September 19, 2023

Thanks for humoring me. I'm a long-time Alexa user for basic voice commands, but I just finished a remodel and want to kick the tires on Homekit. I've had Sonos in 3 different houses and plan to use it again in the new place. This is probably not negotiable. I love Sonos... I also have Spotify -- years of history and playlists that I could probably give up in favor of Apple Music, but unfortunately Spotify is the ONLY streaming service other than Tidal that works in my car so it's probably Spotify or nothing. We are a multi-macbook, multi-iphone and multi-Apple Watch home. So I'd like to see all of these things work together if possible. I've had Rokus in the past, but I'm open to switching to AppleTVs if there's enough reason to do so. I imagine we'll need a couple of Homepods, which is fine, but they're pretty expensive to only use as microphones and kitchen timers... I've read a lot about how this particular combo (homekit + spotify + sonos) a match made in hell. There's the Dolby Atmos "pop" issue between AppleTV and Sonos. There is a lack of spotify integration in HK which kills our smart use case no. 1 ("alexa play \_\_\_\_\_\_\_.") I kicked this decision, but I need to choose a home security standard as soon as possible (either Honeywell, which is friendly for homekit, either Qolsys, which is more HA friendly). I don't think it matters, but if you're curious, the network is all Ubiquiti. As well as the rooms. (Again, something that doesn't necessarily play nice with Homekit, but I'm not too worried about wifi and cameras playing a big role in automations...) Thanks for the helpful consideration.
