The consequences for the smart home of Apple's Unleashed event on HomeKit Insider

In the latest episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast, your hosts discuss Apple announcements from the "Unleashed" event, including the Apple Music Voice Plan, HomePod mini colors, the new AirPods, and the new MacBook Pro.

Much of the episode was devoted to using the breakdown of Apple's announcements about events, especially those related to the smart home. This includes the new HomePod mini which, despite any new features, now comes in three new colors. Users can buy HomePod mini in orange, blue and yellow.

Of course we had to talk about the new voice-only plan for Apple Music. With the new price of 4.99 USD you can listen to Apple Music on any device using only Siri. This is useful as a low-cost option, but also excellent for smart home users.

Finally, we spent some time talking about the new Apple Mac hardware and AirPods.

Outside of the Apple event, we talked again about sleep tracking apps, including Pillow, AutoSleep, and Sleep Watch.

The only listener question I came across this week was how you can use the Shortcuts app to link a Focus mode to a HomeKit scene. That way, when you say good night to Siri at the end of the day, she'll automatically shift your focus to sleep.

Keep up to date with everything Apple has in the weekly AppleInsider podcast - and get a quick update of news from AppleInsider Daily. Say "Hey, Siri" to the HomePod mini and ask for these podcasts, as well as our latest HomeKit Insider episode.
