The new security system: PROA7PLUS or Qolsys IQ4

Cupertino, February 29, 2024

If you were starting over looking for a centrally monitored security system, would you choose the PROA7PLUS with native HomeKit integration or the Qolsys IQ4 and use Homebridge for HomeKit integration? I'm getting rid of an existing Xfinity system and just started with HomeKit. Outside of some Eve blinds and a few Lutron switches, this would be the next big "HomeKit" purchase. Likewise, with the same number and type of sensors, the HW system would be $1,500 and the Qolsys would be $2,000. I'd probably go with Surety at $22/mo for Qolsys monitoring and AlarmGrid at $35/mo for Honeywell. From a purely security point of view, Qolsys is more attractive to me due to its support for frequency hopping PowerG sensors. In addition, it seems that most people prefer the interface of [alarm.com](https://alarm.com) via HW Total Connect. I don't know if adding the Homebridge layer will cause annoying HomeKit communication delays or if Homebridge support will eventually disappear. The only plus I can see going with the PROA7PLUS is native HomeKit support. And maybe on the HomeKit side, this is a much bigger plus than using Homebridge. I don't know what I don't know. What do you think?
