Upgrading a Baldwin Evolved (Kevo) with native HomeKit and removing Kevo

Cupertino, January 30, 2021

The Kwikset Kevo lock looks dead. Unfortunately, I have a Baldwin Entry set that is powered by Kevo's lock. Kevo does not support HomeKit and required a terrible bridge, which is not reliable. Kevo has developed Premis, their native HomeKit lock. I ordered one and thought I could change the Kevo clutter with the new Premise. I used the Kevo HomeBridge plugin and it is also very unreliable. Well, it worked. I had to have surgery and change some internal parts (it took 30 minutes), but now my Baldwin Evolved Entry Latch set has the Kevo Premis brain. I've lost some features that I never use (touch to open, which also never works). If you've been stuck like me - there's a way forward.
